Alcaidesa
Heathland Open 2009 held in April 2009

Champion Gabriel Canizares &
Tour Director Dr. Volker Bernhardt

Golf
Open Tour with Champions
With the international competitions at the
Golf Open Tour the Spanish players prepare
themselves for bigger tasks. The Alcaidesa
Heathland Open 2009 was won by Gabriel Canizares.
This success gave Gabriel so much confidence
that a week later he could beat all his Spanish
fellow pros at Fuerteventura to become the
PGA Champion 2009 of his own country. During
the tournament at Alcaidesa Gabriel`s confidence
level was still so low that he told the Golf
Open Tour director Dr. Volker Bernhardt that
he is the black sheep of the golfing family
only able to win against his mother and sister
on the golf course. Little chance against
his father Jose Maria who became one of the
first golf legends of Spain by winning international
tournaments and with his brother Alejandro
playing now successful on the European Tour.
So family Canizares watch out for Gabriel
he is in great form now!
Manuel Quiros also a former winner on the
Golf Open Tour shared third place at the prestigious
Spanish PGA Championship. This new Tour is
obviously ideal for young Pros to train and
practice for preparing to upgrade their game
for the big Tours.
The Golf Open Tour has now extended to an
Amateur and Pro-Am Tour. With this unique
concept the amateurs can for little money
rub shoulders with the professional players
and learn from them while playing and practising
with them on the golf course.
The web site is now also in Spanish, so please
look at www.golfopentour.com.
The next event is in June 3rd to 6th at the
top course Sherry Golf close to Jerez. A course
the European Tour has selected for the second
tour school stage where the new professional
stars need to qualify to get the pass to play
in the highest money league. Besides the competitive
golf outing the sherry bodegas of Jerez are
waiting for you. If you like to join a collective
trip to this special event please phone: Dr.
Volker Bernhardt (0034) 630794369.

Los
Flamingos Golf Resort once again opened its
doors for the Golf Open Tour.
In February 2009 the international Pro Tour
continued, its third event in a very short space
of time. Besides a very strong international
Professional presence, Amateurs were welcomed
from many different nations (England, Scotland,
Wales, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland
and USA).
Two very exciting tournaments with outstanding
golf professionals were once again the big attraction
at Los Flamingos. The number 4 of the European
Senior Tour 2008, Juan Quiros, fought off challenges
by other Senior Pros but the Swede Peter Dahlberg
was finally the winner and received his first
exclusive Los Flamingo Senior Club Masters Jacket.
The following week Peter only lost against Juan
Quiros on the final hole for the Gran Flamingo
Masters 2009 title. A sure indication that Peter
Dahlberg can now play and succeed in the highest
league.
The Junior Pros was once again made up of players
mostly from the European Tour and Challenge
Tour all displaying great talent. Carlos Jose
Rodiles took the Los Flamingos Masters Title
on the old course and his fellow country-man
Jose Lorca could not be stopped by his strong
colleagues. He rolled in the putts from everywhere
to win the Gran Flamingo Masters Title 2009
on the demanding golf course, in very difficult
weather conditions. He even set a new course
record of 67 shots (6 under par) during his
last round.
The amateurs also had their fun and challenges
where Nigel Eede could also only win his first
net title after three tough rounds on the last
hole against runner up Ian Crawford. The young
George Parker from England with a handicap of
2 was one to watch being the first player to
win the Amateur Masters Jacket of Los Flamingos
Golf Resort. The consensus of all participants
was good and reflected well on the Golf Open
Tour www.golfopentour: “We had a great
time, great golf courses, super Resort and we
will back for sure."

40
Professional Golfers Tee off in Marbella

Manuela Ghidotti (Barceló Hotel Guadalmina),
Manuel Quiros (Spanish Pro), Victoria Payo (Director
Barceló Guadalmina), Benjamin Schlichting (German
Pro), Dr. Volker Bernhardt (Tour Director)
This week heralds the start
of a new Professional Golf Tour in Andalucia. The brain-child
of German born, Volker Bernhardt, who himself has played
on the Spanish and German PGAs, the Golf Open Tour tees
off at Los Flamingos Golf. The tournament will be held
over three days and 40 professional golfers from nine
different countries will compete for prize money of
15,000 euros.
The players will compete on the original North Course
on the first day and the new South Course on the final
day. Although the The European Seniors Match Play Championship
has been played at Los Flamingos in 2002, 3 and 4, the
younger, longer hitters have yet to test the ground,
giving rise to some potentially very interesting golf.
Volker says his idea was inspired by the marketing genius,
the late Mark McCormack who was responsible with his
company IMG, for creating the World Match Play Championship
at Wentworth in the 1960s. With these ideas, twinned
with the beliefs and ideas of Marbella Club founder
Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe who brought style to Marbella,
he wants to bring great golfers to the area who will
enjoy their time here, return and bring followers with
them. "By giving the players what I believe they
want they will come back. To be well looked after, play
quality golf courses, have good weather and the opportunity
of the glory of winning and good prize money."

Quality
Attracts Quality
The Southern Spanish coast is perfect for a tournament
of this kind and in the future Volker plans to create
a quality training centre mainly to give professional
golfers the facilities they cannot enjoy most of the
time in Northern Europe. "Give quality and quality
will follow", Volker insists. Having quality hotels
and golf courses involved is key to the success of this
venture and the Golf Open Tour will benefit hugely from
the support of the Barceló Hotel Guadalmina and
the two 18 hole golf courses at Los Flamingos.
The championship has a big future and even under the
current market climate has inspired 15 Marbella companies
to sponsor the event and take it through to further
tournaments in 2009. These companies include The Barceló
Hotel, Villa Padierna Hotel & Resort with Los Flamingos
Golf, Fischer Cars, Samara Resorts, Golfino and Pia
Chimeneas, to name but a few. On Saturday (13th Dec),
following the two day Pro Tournament, there will be
a Pro-Am in which many of the sponsors will have teams
but individual amateurs are invited to play. The day
will start with a welcome glass of Champagne and sponsors
will be handing out promotional materials and following
the Pro-Am there will be a Gala lunch on the terraces
of the Villa Padierna.

future sponsorship possibilities, please contact Volker

On the tee of the 4th, there was a feeling of tension
in the cold air. The Hole in One competition was intense.
Mr. Walter Fischer sr. and his team greeted the participants
with drinks and Christmas cookies. The Fischer Mercedes
Group offered a prize for a Hole in One of a new Mercedes

After
wonderful tournaments in December 2008 the Golf Open
Tour continued with two events in January 2009. In the
"Los Flamingos Masters 2009" the favourite
Manuel Quiros could only finish second after a thrilling
3 day fight with his international colleagues. The Englishman
Michael Lowe came 3rd with 214 strokes but it was Manuel's
fellow countryman , Raul Rodriguez, who took the title
of the first Flamingos Masters Champion. The president
and owner of the Los Flamingos Resort, Senor Ricardo
Arranz de Miguel, |

presented
the Club Masters Jacket to the radiant winner Raul,
who finished the final round with a very impressive

The enthusiastic
golf amateurs also had a special treat. On the 7th and
8th January, a combined Pro / Am tournament was integrated
as part of the Los Flamingos Masters. The winners received
their prizes, after a fantastic tournament, in the La
Cantina restaurant at the Los Flamingos Resort. The
organizer and director of the Open Golf Tour, Dr. Volker
Bernhardt, had the pleasure to honour the three winning
teams. Third place went to the Englishman Michael Lowe
with his Irish Amateur Jim Dunne, who had played his
first Pro-Am in his life and |

mentioned afterwards that he had
such a great time with the pro that he'd always like
to have the support of a player of that calibre. Second
position went to Raul Rodriguez with his Spanish amateur
Rafael Garcia and the beaming winners were the two
unbeatable players, Pro Manuel Quiros with his English
amateur friend Nigel Eede. On Monday January 12th the Golf Open Tour continued
in bright sunshine with the 4th golf tournament of
the tour series, the "Gran Flamingo Master 2009". |
|
|
|
|
 |
Once again
the Spaniard, Raul Rodriguez Quiros, surprised the spectators
with a new course record on the very challenging Gran
Flamingo Course. One sovereign 4 under par proves that
even on this new golf course of Los Flamingos Resorts
an outstanding result can be achieved. In an exciting
head to head race with a European Tour player Zane Scotland
from England, the local Spanish Raul Rodriguez triumphed
once again. During the prize giving, Dr. Volker Bernhardt
praised in the highest tones this very congenial, now
two times Masters Champion, Raul Rodriguez. |
|
|
|
|
With
these exceptional results Raul could certainty play
an important role even on the European Main Tour, if
only a sponsor could be found for such a young talent.
Dr. Volker Bernhardt promised the ambitious players
that there will be another opportunity for the Open
Golf Tour to help and support them so they can get the
best from themselves. We might even have the next Masters
Champion coming from the Golf Open Tour and winning
in Augusta like two Spaniards have done in the past
(Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal). Professional
golf can be profitable if one considers that the top
100 best golfers in the world earn over one million
U.S. dollars prize money in only one year. For more information about the Open
Golf Tour, visit www.golfopentour.com or phone (0034)
